Slurp Ramen Factory

Hey Broke Foodies,

I recently moved back to Katy so I decided to try a new spot off of Grand Parkway next to Sushi Hana called Slurp Ramen Factory. The ramen spot just opened up about a month ago and it scores high on my ramen radar. From the food, to the décor everything about this place is ” NEXT LEVEL“.

From the outside, you wouldn’t expect to walk into such a modern and well put together space. With grey slate and modern minimalist design it is very aesthetically pleasing to any guests that walks in. The owner, said that they “Went with a modern, minimalist design because its classy and elegant. [They] want the diners to enjoy their whole dining experience not just food. ” I really enjoyed the space because its unique to any other ramen spot I have been to. Slurp really made it their own. The enclosed glass kitchen is also a nice touch!

Now, on to the food. My mom and I ( yes , my mom is currently my new tasting buddy and I love spending quality time with her ) started off with the ramen burger as an appetizer. A ramen burger is a burger where the buns are made out of ramen noodles. They have two varieties, a tofu burger and a pork burger. Since I’m not a HUGE pork fan, I decided to do something different and give the tofu burger a try. Y’all…. their ramen burger is the TRUTH. I’ve had a ramen burger before at Oh My Gogi and I thought that was good, this blew them out of the water. I didn’t even miss the meat. The noodles had a delicious flavor to them and great bite. The tofu was cooked to perfection in some type of special sauce and its topped with sriracha mayo, corn, and spinach. It’s a must try! I ate very bite.

I know it doesn’t look like much, but TRUST ME – ITs soooo good!!!

For the ramen, I ordered the Tonkotsu Spicy Miso and my mom ordered the Black Garlic Tonkotsu. Both of these were delicious! The main difference between the two being that one is served with thick noodles and the other with thin. I personally enjoyed both of them, but I think I was more partial to the Black Garlic Tonkotsu because I like thin noodles and you can never go wrong with garlic. Also, the miso flavor is very subtle in the Tonkotsu Spicy Miso which I really appreciated because I am not so keen on miso. You can change the spice level if needed but you can not interchange noodles like at Jinya. The broth was flavorful and rich, the pork was extremely tender, and the noodles were scrumptious. The ramen can definitely compete with some of the cities top contenders. I personally liked it better than both Samurai Noodles and Ramen Tatsu-ya .

Anyone that personally knows me, knows that I LOVE noodles! Like a lot – I have a secret obsession with Ramen packaged noodles even though I know those MSG packets are terrible for you – but who doesn’t indulge a little? Lucky for us, the chefs at Slurp are taking a different approach to create cleaner and healthier ramen by using modern cooking techniques.

“[Their] chefs believe in all natural ingredients without any additives or enhancers such as msg that has been saturating the restaurant market.”

Almost everything at Slurp is made in-house from the broth to the tare (sauce for ramen). I was surprised to find out that the noodles are outsourced by Sun Noodles. The owner divulged that he has been working them for years and that they are the best noodle maker on this side of the world. Sun Noodle makes custom noodles for Slurp so that they pair just right with each of their ramen broths.

Slurp Ramen Factory is not a chain and Katy/Richmond is currently its sole location. I inquired with the owner to see if there would be more locations coming soon. His response was ambiguous. He disclosed that there will probably be another location but is not sure when. He also went on to clarify the brands intentions by saying,

” We want to make sure this one holds up to the highest standard and has a firm foundation with a solid staff before we even think about the next location.”

I have a feeling will be seeing and hearing more about Slurp Ramen Factory very soon!
