Houston Restaurant Weeks : “Champagne taste on a beer budget”

Houston Restaurant Weeks is like Christmas in August for any foodie but it’s especially sweet for a foodie on a budget. “Whys that you ask?” Because it gives restaurant goers the chance to try some of Houston’s finest cuisine at budgeted prices. Not to mention, it raises funds for The Houston Food Bank. 2 course brunch at Brennan’s of Houston for $20, a meat lovers lunch at B&B Butcher’s for $20, or sashimi, sushi rolls, and lychee ice-cream for $35 at Tobiuo Sushi. Need I say more ?

Houston Restaurant Weeks runs this year from August 1st to September 3rd and features tons of popular Houstonian favorites. I’m not sure of the exact number but its wayyyy more than you can count.

Variety is the spice of life, but the list of restaurants is overwhelming at best and can leave even the most frequent foodie with the question “Where should I start?!?”

Here’s a list of tips and tricks to pick the best restaurant for you and to get the best bang for your buck!

1. Brunch, Lunch, or Dinner?

  • Each restaurant on the website indicates its menu for Brunch, Lunch, or Dinner. So start out by narrowing it down by the meal you are planning to eat. I suggest brunch or lunch options. You can have all the tasty offerings for a few dollars less because lunch and brunch only run you $20.

2. Know your budget

  • Do you want to spend $20 or $45? Be realistic about what you want to spend. Because we all know those bills can add up quick! And don’t forget to leave a great tip. The HRW website is a great tool because it has the prices listed for each restaurant per meal time. That’s a win for you and your wallet.

3. Study The Menu

  • There’s nothing worse than picking a restaurant then getting there and hating the menu. Take the time to glance at the menus for restaurant week. They WILL differ from the regular restaurant options. As mentioned previously, all menus are available on the HRW website. I really like using the “Search’ tool. I use the advanced option and search by cuisine! That helps narrow it down very quickly.

4. Make a reservation !

  • HRW is a popular and well known event so expect a long wait or to be turned away if you didn’t plan ahead. You can make a reservation the old fashioned way or use an app like Open Table or try Seated (Get “Seated” : The New App that pays you to dine out!) for making reservations! Don’t forget to create an account and rack up those points!
