Black Owned Businesses To Visit in Houston

Shopping for candles at Black owned DIY shop, Love & Make

Did you know Black owned businesses only make up 7% of U.S. businesses in total?! An even more shocking fact is that a dollar circulates in Black communities for only 6 hours! For measure, a dollar circulates in Hispanic communities for 7, white communities for 17, Jewish communities for 20, and Asian communities for a whopping 28 days according to author and speaker Maggie Anderson.

Shopping at Black owned businesses is just as important as shopping local. Not only do Black owned businesses celebrate Black culture and provide unique cultural experiences but they also help to infuse money back into Black communities and close the racial wealth gap. Now, more than ever, Black owned businesses need your support.

I have created a curated list of my favorite Black owned business in Houston that are Musing with Mel approved. I’ve frequented all of these businesses multiple times and if you follow me on Instagram, this is not the first time you’ve heard me praise them. Some are brick and mortars, some operate at farmers markets and craft shows, others are strictly online, ALL are amazing!

I also took the time to list some that I have not yet tried but have heard great things about from friends and other bloggers. Enjoy the following list, I’m sure you’ll find some new products, services, foods and Black owned businesses to love!
