Duck Donuts Reviews
Hey Broke Foodies,
Duck donuts opened its very first Texas location in the Bellaire area yesterday, Jan 7th. The “designer” donuts were a huge hit at its grand opening with long lines and excitement over the tasty, Instagram worthy creations.
The shop hails all the way from the eastern shores of North Carolina. The idea for the shop was born by a summer vacationer named Russel A. DiGilio in Duck, North Carolina. He loved his summers by the shore but he quickly realized that there was a missing link on the restaurant scene, DONUTS! The first shop opened in 2006 and the first franchise opened in 2013 . The Bellaire store makes #57 and they are projected to open up 140 more stores in the near future. San Antonio and Dallas locations will be popping up soon!
The Duck Donuts concept is unlike any other on the market right now. The donuts are all made to order, which means each donut is totally customizable. The donut purveyor hasover 30 different drizzles, icing, and toppings to choose from. Which makes for over 728 yummy combinations! It’s definitely not your average donut shop. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the variety, they also have a menu of “fan favorites” you can pick from like the Sunrise – lemon iced with raspberry drizzle and S’mores – chocolate icing with gram cracker topping and marshmallow drizzle.
You won’t find any yeast in this shop, the designer donuts are strictly cake. Since the donuts are made to order, the wait time is a little longer than your traditional shops like Shipley’s or Dunkin. Personally, I’d wait for a cake donut doused in powder sugar, drizzled with chocolate and showered with coconut and pecans over a plain-Jane glazed any day. And according the lines yesterday, I’m not the only one who can find a little patience for a sweet treat. The freshness and creativity are totally worth it! The shop also serves espresso drinks, hot chocolate, donut sandwhiches, and donut sundaes !
Don’t be a quack, go check out Duck Donuts for yourself.
Duck Donuts is located at 3157 W Holcombe Blvd Houston, Texas 77025. The shop sits directly next to Panera Bread in the shopping center with Randall’s and Chick Fil A.
Hours are M-F 6AM – 3PM; Sat & Sun 6AM – 7PM. A 1/2 dozen will set you back $7.95.
