Senegalese Twists

For my trip to Europe, I decided to get Senagalese Twists for the first time! I had always wanted them but always ended up going back to box braids. I’m so glad I finally tried this style, it has been one of my absolute favorites and I will definitely be getting them again soon! I received so many questions and compliments about this style both while I was in Europe and back at home that I decided to write this post !

Most if not all of my hair inspo comes from pictures I see on Pinterest, Instagram, or online blogs. However, most of the time its just that, a picture, no details about what kind of hair was used, how much time it took or the cost. So I hope this post gives a little more insight for anyone wanting to emulate this style!

Pain Level

Mild. I’ve had ALOT of styles in my life but I’m also tender headed so I thought it would be good to add this info. I think the twists installation is much more comfortable than box braids. Your skin doesn’t feel as pinched and I barely had that next day soreness BUT that also could be due to the awesome work of Tiara, my stylist!

Hair Jewelry

I used a combination of hair clasps, beads, and thread. I really like the hair thread! It was my first time using and it stayed put flawlessly. Some of the hair jewelry can fall out easily but there’s so many in a pack that they are easily replaceable. I linked all of them below.

Maintenance

Because of the size of these twists, the style can only last for 2-4 weeks. I stretched mine to 3 weeks and I might have been able to make 4 but I also got them wet at the beach which I don’t advise.

Pros

Twists don’t pull on your hair as much. Taking them out is a breeze! It took only 30 minutes for me to take out all of my twists myself.

Cons

Hair needs to be tied down in a scarf EVERY night. These are not a great style for beach vacations since you should avoid water. Also, the weight is pretty heavy!
